A number of organizations (TV Suisse Romande, for example) and web enthusiasts have begun providing a free service called a "WebCam". A webcam is an electronic camera connected to a server; this camera grabs images throughout the day and night, giving you the opportunity to see the view from the webcam site. While webcam image updates vary, many provide a new image every ten minutes or so, though it should be noted that images taken during the night generally show nothing more than a field of darkness.

You will find below a selection of webcam sites that show views of cities, towns, or scenery in the Alps. Remember to contact these sites during the daylight hours; you will then be able to see the weather situation or the amount of snow cover in various different places.

Kindly e-mail the web address of any other Alpine webcam you may encounter, so that it may be added to the list below. Thank you!
